Blog Review: FotoFilmic

- Visually FotoFilmic is appealing, the color scheme is simplistic with a white and black theme. I do not like how the site is organized though because the front page focuses a lot on an event in 2014 that has not happened and on selling prints. I wish that the site focused more on articles and information on photography instead of selling prints and advertising events. Fotofilmic is a review for 90 film photographers. First it is a six month online publication then it features 30 prints from the online publications. There is a variety of cash prizes for the winner. So basically Fotofilmic is an online gallery for film photographers.

The article is first perspective article on information about Nate Mathews. Nate Mathews is an artist, photographer, sculpture, and educator from Chicago. Mathew’s teaches at Northeastern Illinois University. Mathews explains how he uses a 4x5 field camera because images can be more perfected than with digital cameras. Mathews explains how his photography has a “poignant feeling”. I liked Nate Mathews work because of its simplistic but crisp like photos. His color schemes well thought out through all his photos making theme pleasing for viewers. I also like how he uses something that is not a digital camera, and the quality the 4x5 field camera adds to the image.

Blog Review: Light Leaked

The blog is about Sarah Malakoff’s new photo book Charta.
Malakoff was born in Massachusetts in 1972. She is now a widely exhibited
photographer and works as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Malakoff
has several awards including being awarded Fellowships from the Massachusetts
Cultural Council in 2001 and 2011. Malakoff’s work focuses on how physical
items in our home represent who we are. Malakoff also mentions that windows can
either be to control our environment or to let views in. I personally enjoyed the blog because I love interior design. I can easily relate to how what we place in our homes representing ourselves because I feel like I represent myself in that way.

Blog Review: Aperture Magazine Blog
Aperture Magazine Blog
- 1/1 Preview: Annette Booth on Rinko Kawauchi by:Annette Booth October 15, 2013
- Aperture was created in 1952 in New York as a “common ground for the advancement of photography,”. Aperture posts on the blog as a daily blog. Besides posting a blog Aperture publishes four magazines a year and twelve to fifteen photo books. Aperture photography blog is just a small section of the company, many focuses of the company include the magazine, photo books, and photography exhibits. Since Aperture has so many focuses in the company the site can be confusing and scattered on the home page, but once you located the section you are looking for the site is fairly easy.
- The blog is a promotion for Rinko Kawauchi’s photograph Untitled(2013) that was featured in a silent auction that occurred on October 28. The blog is written by Annette Booth, Booth discusses how she first discovered Kawauchi in 2006 while doing a project for her mentor. Booth stated that “the mystical beauty of her photographs struck me like nothing else I saw at the fair”. I can relate to how Booth felt because in the large variety of blog posts when I saw Kawauchi’s photograph I was immediately intrigued. The pastel colors popped on the neutral background of the Aperture blog, and stood out among the rest of the blog posts.

Blog Review: Glasstire
- Glasstire
- Moving Pictures at Brand 10 & andX September 27, 2013 Matt Szal
- Glasstire is a nonprofit online blog created in January of 2001 that focuses on art in Texas and Southern California. Glasstire is created by multiple editors and bloggers with Michael Bise as the Featured Cloumnist. The blog is visually appealing and focuses on many types of arts besides photography. The posts are typically five to six times a week.
- Brand 10 is a nonprofit art gallery in Fort Worth that is closing in December. Moving Pictures is an exhibit that will feature many artists and works that have been featured in previous years There will be video works, installations, and filmed performances. This article was interesting for me since I live in the Fort Worth area. I have never been to this gallery, but I attempt to attend before the closing in December.

Blog/Article Review
Blog Name: Booooooom!
Artist: Parker Fitzgerald

The blogger is Jeff Hamanda. He lives in Vancouver and is a Japanese Canadian artist. He created the blog Booooooom in 2008. Booooooom is on of the largest blogs about photography and art on the internet. Post are made multiple times a week about anything from Instagram photos to professional photographer's photos. His site is visually appealing consisting of mostly large photos and small text explaining photos. There is a side bar with various links to other photography, art events, and advertisements.
The artist is Parker Fitzgerald the article is a showcase of his work for Kinfolk Flowers. His work is a mixture of bight flowers and ice cream. The photos all have a similar color scheme, bright flowers or ice cream with a neutral color background. I love bright color schemes and rustic qualities. Fitzgerald's photos also used a mixture of photo depth the bright color was always in focus, but the background varied. I was interested in the blog because Fitzgerald's work matched my visual tastes.

Portraits of Self, Portraits of Others
One of my favorite portraits is of Sharbat Gula, a Afghan girl taken in 1985. This photo was taken by Steve McCurry for National Geographic magazine. I like this photo because of the great intensity of her eyes, and the contrast her eyes bring to the picture.
Another portrait I like is by Edouard Boubat. I like this photo because of how calm the boy looks as he relaxes and listens to the noise of the shell. Edouard Boubat was know for taking photos that showed peacefulness.
The next portrait I like is by Angus McBean. He was known for taking photos of theatrical plays. The photo I like the most by him is of Vivien Leigh. This photo was made into a postage stamp before he died in 1990.
My next favorite portrait is by Francesco Scavullo. He was known for some of his controversial works, but this photo is my favorite of his because of the innocent appearance of the girl. Her young face and her big eyes bring out a sense of freshness and purity.
My next favorite portrait is of Audrey Hepburn, and it was taken by Phillipe Halsman. Phillipe Halsman took a variety of portraits where celebrities were jumping. This one was my favorite because the photo brings out a sense of happiness and excitement.
